Nan Goldin (b. 1953) is unquestionably one of the most influential photographers of the 20th century.

A successor to Diane Arbus, her aesthetic and creative approach had a tremendous impact on both the medium and the art world.

Goldin was the first to use the "slide show" format in a high-art setting.

In the 1980's she documented her social circle, characters often living on the margins of society, in New York City and beyond.

"Joey in My Mirror, (Hornstr.), Berlin, 1992" is one of Goldin's most iconic images.

Both the central character and the 'subject in a front of a mirror' arrangement reappear many times throughout Goldin's work. The mirror is a key motif in her oeuvre. Appropriately, one of her most celebrated publications is entitled "I'll Be Your Mirror" and this image can be found there.
