RICHARD ANUSZKIEWICZ "MAGENTA" SCREENPRINT, 1979

$2,250

One of our favorite American artists, Richard Anuszkiewicz (b. 1930) is a major player in both Op Art and Hard-Edge Abstraction. His work is typically composed of pulsating colors in strict geometries.

Josef Albers was a mentor to Anuszkiewicz. However the student pushed his teacher's theories further, creating compositions that were more dynamic with colors more electric, active and contemporary.

Anuszkiewicz, like many of his high-profile contemporaries, was an active printmaker, expressing his vision through a variety of printing approaches. In the early 1970's he began his "Annual" series.

These works were created from passion (rather than commercial aspirations) and were not sold. Instead the artist gave these screenprints on masonite to friends and family.

If you are not familiar with the series, they give the impression of being individually hand-painted. Click here and here to see other examples of these sought-after intimate works.

Today Anuszkiewicz's work can be found in every major American museum including the Art Institute of Chicago, the MoMA (New York), the Guggenheim (New York), the Whitney (New York) and the Albright-Knox Art Gallery (Buffalo) to mention a few.
