One of our favorite American artists, Richard Anuszkiewicz (b. 1930) is a major player in both Op Art and Hard-Edge Abstraction. His work is typically composed of neon candy colors in strict geometries.

As the artist explained “I’m interested in making something romantic out of a very, very mechanistic geometry. Geometry and color represent to me an idealized, classical place that’s very clear and very pure.”

Not surprisingly, Josef Albers was a mentor of Anuszkiewicz's. However the student pushed his teacher's theories further, creating compositions that were more dynamic with colors more electric.

This vibrant screen print is characteristic of the artist’s practice, utilizing citrus colors and blues in concentric squares to draw in and obfuscate the gaze.

Anuszkiewicz was included in the landmark exhibition, “Americans 1963” held at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), New York. The artist’s work can also be found in the collections of the Art Institute of Chicago, the Guggenheim (New York), the Whitney (New York) and the Albright-Knox Art Gallery (Buffalo), among others.
