VASA MIHICH "SPHERE" SCULPTURE, 1996
Caviar20 is excited to be offering for the first time one of Vasa Mihich's iconic "Sphere" sculptures.
This example, in excellent condition was made in 1996 and comes from a single-owner, private collection in Chicago.
Resting on a custom clear acrylic stand, the sculpture reveals different colors and densities depending on its position or the viewer's. Some of the major colors include grape, melon red and teal.
The internal forms, are reminiscent of Verner Panton's "Globe Lights" from 1969 - but the overall effect is unmistakably Vasa.
If you are familiar with Caviar20 you know that Vasa was a Senior Professor of Design at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) where he taught color theory for many years.
For nearly nearly 50 years he has been working in acrylics; whether on canvas or through sculpture.
This is an impressive sculpture that has impact, yet can be positioned on a desk or console. We are pleased to be offering such a fine early example of Vasa's work.
