Victor Pasmore
VICTOR PASMORE "TRANSFORMATIONS 2" SCREENPRINT, 1970
Victor Pasmore (1908-1988) was a leading figure in British post-war abstraction, whose work played a critical role in defining the language of modern art.
A tireless educator, architect, painter, and printmaker, Pasmore became a central force in expanding and promoting the principles of Constructivism and the Bauhaus.
The artist's practice and ideology were deeply influenced by Ben Nicholson, inspiring Pasmore to push the boundaries of abstraction with strong attention to geometry and order.
Pasmore's "Point of Contact - Transformation" consists of a series of eight screenprints, each featuring simple forms that have been manipulated into fluid, biomorphic shapes.
"Transformations 2" is an exemplary piece from this body of work. A voluminous ink-black form swells across the surface alluding to organic growth and evolution. Simultaneously, the form narrows at the center, creating a sense of tension that constricts the shape and intensifies its dynamic interplay of expansion and restraint.
In 1961, Pasmore represented Britain at the Venice Biennale, leading to numerous international exhibitions. His work is celebrated in public collections across the globe including Musée des Beaux-Arts (Bordeaux), Museum of Modern Art (New York), and the Royal Academy of Arts (London).
