Louise Nevelson is one of the most revered and unique sculptors of the 20th century.

Her work has had an undeniable influence on a host of artists ranging from Tony Cragg to Louise Bourgeois.

Nevelson is occasionally positioned with the Abstract Expressionist artists, although Caviar20 is skeptical of this categorization.  This drawing which seems calculated and controlled, challenges such an association. Here we can deduce that Nevelson is aiming for harmony and symmetry, even if there was an element of spontaneity in its creation. Overall the work has more in common with Modernist art and design, evocative of Ben Nicholson or Le Corbusier...

It is extremely rare to have a unique work on paper by Nevelson, and rarer still for it be from such an important early chapter in Nevelson's career.
